Owner Tim Tosto had his sights set on being the fastest, naturally aspirated, T56 shifted, LS1 in the country, while retaining a somewhat stock appearance. The result was taking a 1999 3,000 mile Camaro SS, shoehorning in an iron 422 cid, 14:1 CR high reving motor into a 3450lb car.
The key to getting it to work was massaging the factory PCM to accept all of this potential. Initially, the car was tuned by Keith McCord of McCord PCM Tuning using LS1Edit and produced 522 rwhp and ran consistent 10-teens at 134 mph. The problem was the PCM wasn’t happy running with no O2 sensor feedback due to the 112 octane leaded race gas.
Enter EFILive and their custom operating systems. Using a combination of speed density and open loop tuning, the car now put down 585 rwhp and shattered the old record with a 9.87 @139 mph, all through a T56 transmission in a 3450 lb car. Furthermore, with the EFILive tuning, the car is extremely streetable going to local cruises on occasion.
